A mental health crisis occurs when someone’s thoughts, feelings, or behaviors reach a point where they can no longer manage safely on their own.[1] This may look like suicidal thoughts, panic, disorientation, or a sudden inability to care for basic needs. Understanding the definition of a mental health crisis vs. ongoing manageable symptoms of a mental illness helps people respond early and effectively.
Crisis management refers to the immediate coordination of care that ensures safety during these moments. At The Lakes, we don’t provide crisis stabilization directly, but we partner with psychiatric hospitals and crisis centers across Florida to help clients receive 24-hour supervision and medical oversight when it’s most needed.
Our team works directly with hospitals and trusted facilities to make sure each client gets into a safe, supportive environment as quickly as possible. We stay in touch throughout the process, checking in and helping families understand what to expect. When it’s time to leave inpatient care, we coordinate a smooth transition into the right next step at The Lakes, whether that’s PHP, IOP, or another form of ongoing support.
No one should have to go through a mental health crisis on their own. From the first call for help to the start of outpatient treatment, The Lakes is there to guide, reassure, and help each person move forward with confidence.
